Rotarian John Rambo, Managing Director of Hickory Community Theatre, arranged to have cast members from HCT’s production of Disney’s Winnie the Pooh Kids perform for the club’s membership at today’s noon meeting. The production features 31 youth actors, whose ages range from 7 to 15. All your favorite characters are on hand, including: Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Piglet, Rabbit, Owl, Kanga, Lily Bodnar as Roo, Eeyore and Christopher Robin.
This retelling of the 2011 Disney film also has a rainbow of narrators: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet; there’s also a chorus of bees and another of forest animals.
The story reunites the philosophical “bear of very little brain” and his friends Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet, Kanga, Roo—and last, but certainly not least, Eeyore, who has lost his tail. “Well a tail is either there or it isn’t there,” said Pooh. “And yours isn’t… there.” Owl sends the whole gang on a wild quest to save Christopher Robin from an imaginary culprit. It turns out to be a very busy day for a bear who simply set out to find some “hunny.”
The script is based upon the characters of the children’s books Winnie the Pooh, The House at Pooh Corner by A. A. Milne and Return to the Hundred Acre Wood by David Benedictus.
The Hickory Community Theatre’s upcoming youth theatre production, Disney’s Winnie the Pooh Kids is helmed by two directors new to Hickory Community Theatre but no strangers to the stage. They are Leanna Polk Bodnar and Mark Bodnar, a married couple who have been working together for over 13 years.
Other HCT productions this season include: 9 to 5, A Christmas Story, Time Stands Still, House of Blue Leaves, A Southern Exposure, Dead Man’s Cell Phone, Complete Works, and Dr. Doolittle.
