On Saturday, March 17, 2012, The Hickory Rotary Club conducted its annual Rotarian Idol fundraiser to benefit local educational initiatives. The singing contest was held at P.E. Monroe Auditorium on the campus of Lenoir Rhyne University. The twenty finalists who competed for the top prize of $2500 were: Mike Brooks, Leslie Cline, Jimmy Cooper, Molly Cummings, Tiffany Gray, Amanda Harren, Leona Hunter, Phuong McKinney, Thomas Michaels, Jordan Alexander Randall, Julia Rush, Christa Shuford, Savannah Spencer, Greg Suddreth, Alex Swanson, Destre Tashjian, James Matthew Taylor, Victoria Whetzel, Cristy White and Lauren Winkler. The runner-up received $1500, and the “crowd favorite” received $500. In addition one contestant won Honorable Mention.
