On Wednesday, September 3, 2014 Hickory Rotary Club participated in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Several area Rotary clubs, including Catawba Valley Rotary and Newton-Conover Rotary, also took part in the event.
Club members gathered at the Crossing at Hollar Mill at 5:00 pm to fill coolers and buckets with ice water. Hickory Rotary Club President David Moore started the proceedings by passing the challenge to all 51 Rotary District 7670 clubs stretching across 22 counties in Western North Carolina.
At 5:30 the waterworks began, and the cold water was refreshing and invigorating on a hot September afternoon.
The Ice Bucket Challenge began in the summer of 2014 to raise awareness and donations for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) research. Those who accept the challenge agree to be filmed while a bucket of ice water is poured on their head, and participants are encouraged to pass the challenge along to others.
Hickory Rotary thanks you for participating in the Ice Bucket Challenge and for making donations to support efforts to find a cure for this disease.
