Cindy Travis, Catawba County Veterans Service Officer, spoke to Hickory Rotary about how the Catawba County Veteran’s Service Office assists Catawba County veterans and their dependents with filing claims with the Veterans Administration for benefits and service. Cindy is accredited with the North Carolina Division of Veterans Affairs, American Legion veteran’s organization and is Nationally Accredited with the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers. Her responsibilities include assisting veterans and their families in the processing, proof and establishment of military claims, privileges, rights, and benefits as they may be entitled to under Federal, State, or local laws, rules and regulations. Specific products and services available to eligible North Carolina veterans are a scholarship program for eligible children of North Carolina war veterans, nursing home care for qualified veterans at one of four State Veterans Homes, as well as burial space for qualified veterans at one of three State Veterans Cemeteries. Her role includes coordinating with the NC Division of Veterans Affairs and US Department of Veterans Affairs.
