At the Thursday meeting of the Hickory Rotary Club Scott Millar, President of the Catawba County Economic Development Corporation spoke to the club’s members and guests. Scott has served at the Catawba County Economic Development Corporation since 1993 and as its president since 1998. He is a current member of the Charlotte Regional Partnership’s board of directors. He is past President of the North Carolina Economic Developer’s Association and is a past member of the North Carolina Economic Development Board. He was named NCEDA’s Economic Developer of the Year in 2010.
The Catawba County Economic Development Corporation Mission is to build a diversified economic base throughout Catawba County by recruiting new business and industry, by retaining existing business and industry and helping them grow, and by fostering the creation of jobs. In short, the Catawba EDC is a catalyst for industrial development in NC and Catawba County specifically.
Millar has been published in the primary journal for the economic development industry, The Economic Development Review, and has presented at national economic development conferences on best practices in the use of GIS.

- Apple, Inc., Data Center ($1 billion investment, 50 direct and 250 indirect jobs)
- Bed, Bath and Beyond Data Center ($36.8 million investment and 7 jobs)
- Convergys (446 jobs)
- Turbotec (25 jobs)
- Target Distribution Center (580 jobs)
- Turbocoating Corporation USA (110 jobs)
