Hickory Rotary Awards for 2004-2005 Announced

On June 23, 2005, President John Hall presented Hickory Rotary Club's Rotarian-of-the-Year Award to Susan Allshouse. Susan chaired the kickoff to the Centennial year with Rotary Between the Bricks at Lenoir-Rhyne Football, the area Rotary Centennial meeting in February, and was an active participant in virtually every club project over the last year.

President John also presented the first annual Stewart Ashton Heart of Rotary award to Club Secretary Jerri Wilfong, for her many hours of cheerful service to the club. Stewart Ashton was an active member of the Hickory Rotary Club for several years, after settling in Hickory during retirement. He had previously been a member of the Cincinnati Rotary Club for many years while working in the coal business. Stewart passed away in 2003, but continues to inspire those who knew his love for his fellow Rotarians.

Rick Speagle was recognized for his many years of service to the club's Christmas Project. His company, Piedmont Vending, has donated 200 meals each year for delivery by club members on Christmas Eve.

President John also presented perfect attendance awards to several club members, and recognized retiring board members Terry Creasman and Mike Johnson. He also welcomed new directors Susan Allshouse, Bill Dodd, and John Tippett.
